| Information from Dennis Cotter: He wrote to Governor Doyle and Sen. Harsdorf and received replies. He was advised to call The Department of Health and Human Resources at 608-266-1865 Kim Ducholz - a caseworker, at 608-266-1212. You may want to call those same numbers to express your concern. It will not hurt for them to know that there is more than one person concerned about this situation. Multiple calls will have more impact. |

Ideas for keeping our residents here now Appeal to Ecumen to continue running the home Look for another company to run this home here, now - a small company. Develop a community group to run this home here, now. Raise money to supplement the income of the nursing home in an effort to retain Ecumen or get another company to take the nursing home. Dinners * Entertainment * Sporting events * Contact philanthropists * Include all of our community in the effort * Contact outside companies * Use the online shopping site suggested by Donna Williams * Use web-sites * Reduce costs by reducing the number of employees Any of these options will require that we have accurate and complete information: Get more information to be certain what the financial situation is - income, costs. Contact the appropriate government agencies with a plea for immediate help Residents can appeal the decision to be moved. Their appeal must be written. Contact Chippewa Falls to find out how they were able to retain their nursing home after the decision to close. Form a steering committee Meet Develop a time line and action plan Longer Term Solutions: Contact Ecumen to be sure we are told before they release the beds to the state so we will have them for later Appeal to the state to hold the beds Set up a community-run home Go to Madison to appeal to our legislators Keep this building and refit it for either a larger nursing home to pick up the overflow from other closing homes or for assisted living and nursing home. Being Medicare certified increased the possible income of a nursing home. This one has been certified less than a year and has been more profitable in the time since it has been able to take in Medicare residents. Our final solution will need: License for the Nursing Home License for the beds Licensed manager Money to run it Facility |
