Hi, Mr. Jenkins,
My name is Nancy Budrow, I live near West Linn, OR, and I'm a friend of Wayne & Sandy McCroskey. I went with the McCroskeys yesterday to find Jim on the trail and there he was, looking fine and fit, on a remote, open-range gravel road west of Biggs, Oregon. (Open range means the cows have the right of way.) Just checked out your web site...looks like Jim is progressing a bit faster than anticipated. We spent most of the day with him yesterday, took him to lunch in The Dalles, then went with him to The Discovery Center in The Dalles so he could sign the guest book. You probably already know just how excited they were to see him...had the most-welcome priority package from home there waiting for him. They were expecting someone heavily laden with a backpack to come in looking for his mail, but of course the backpack, walking sticks and famous hat were stashed away in the trunk of the car. Had it not been for Wayne who made sure to introduce Jim, he could have wandered through the museum incognito. The Dalles is just east of the Cascade Range, and the weather there yesterday was cloudy, dry and warmish. Today I'm sure Jim is walking through a deluge...three storms came in/are coming in from the Coast, the first probably hit The Dalles last night. Here in the Willamette Valley, that first storm dumped almost 3" of rain in some areas, the second storm has brought its greetings to us today. The McCroskeys are really looking out for Jim. I'm sure he'll really enjoy Thanksgiving at their home. They are wonderful friends. I'm trying to arrange at least a hot meal and hot shower for him at a truck stop in Troutdale. What a guy! You must be deliriously proud of him!
I responded:
Yes we are so very proud of Jim. He had a goal to reach and set out to do it. We were very concerned at first. Jim went forth and did it anyway. He, and his brother, are the best things to ever happen to us. We are very proud.
